In 1984, Alan Robbat had a successful career in the nightclub business as the owner of the Palace in Saugus, Massachusetts. But he always wanted to open a small Bar or Restaurant….a place like Cheers, with a simple menu and “where everyone knows your name”.
So when his friend Ben Maganzinni said, “hey, let’s open a bar and restaurant”, Alan was on board and Pearl Street Restaurant was born. The concept worked and soon the lines were out the door. As they looked for new space they found the perfect venue, a converted railroad station that had maintained its charm as well as a wealth of history.
Built in 1891, the station with its slate roof, cathedral ceiling, and original fireplace lended itself to a new concept. From a small restaurant setting to a multi-room facility Pearl Street Restaurant could now expand its menu but retain its intimacy by having many rooms and areas to suit everyone’s needs. A sports bar featuring 18 big screen TV’s, a horseshoe bar, a “club car”, function room and a pizza parlor all under one roof.
